Why does this package make sense?

Most certifications within the field of project management has a Foundation (fundamental) and a Practitioner (advanced/practical) version. Both levels have a starting point in the same manual, which means that at the Practitioner level, you will have already attained the academic content. In continuation of a standard PRINCE2, you will need to see PRINCE2 in an agile mindset. PRINCE2 AgileÒ explains how to combine PRINCE2 with an agile approach. This package is intended for project managers who are already knowledgeable and are disciplined enough to complete 3 certifications in a row.

As a traditional project manager, you know of Scrum and other agile methods. You need to see how the different models work together.

Prerequisites

You have to have passed PRINCE2 Foundation before PRINCE2 Practitioner and PRINCE2 Agile.

Description

The PRINCE2 theory is based upon experiences from thousands of projects and contributions from project managers project sponsors, teachers and consultants of project management. Organizations who use the method ensure all project participants are speaking the same language, understand each other’s roles and responsibilities and use the same model to complete the project. This will increase the success rate of the project while also improving the final result. The certification is an internationally recognized certificate you can use all over the world to document your competences within project management.

PRINCE2 Agile is a course for further development, intended for individuals and businesses who are already familiar with the PRINCE2 method. The method illustrates how to apply the agile mindset in a PRINCE2 context, which is the most frequently used project framework. PRINCE2 Agile is developed to be able to function on its own on a practitioner level. The purpose of the exam is for you to demonstrate that you understand and can use PRINCE2 Agile in different situations.

The order:
The first part of the education is called PRINCE2 Foundation. Here you will be taught the fundamental terms, elements and context.
The second part is the PRINCE2 Practitioner, which will further develop your knowledge of practical and day-to-day project management.

Aims of the courses

PRINCE2® Foundation will provide you with the necessary tools for you to complete your project, irrespective of the size and type of project you are responsible for. Understand the principles and processes of good project management and the themes that permeate/infiltrate the entire life span of the project. Learn how to manage a project by using the PRINCE2® method, a method that ensures all participants use the same model and are on the same page during the project work.

The objective of PRINCE2 Practitioner is to teach you to use PRINCE2 to control and manage a non-complex project in an environment that supports PRINCE2.

The objective of PRINCE2 Agile is to enable you to use Agile compatibly with the principles of PRINCE2 and identify the behavior of successful projects in which PRINCE2 and Agile are combined.

Methods of teaching

The course is based on independent studies via video-based e-learning. You can stream your lessons when and where it suits you and in whichever pace works for you. This also means that you decide how quickly you want to complete the course. The combination of videos, quizzes, written exams and supplementary material will provide good support, both during and after the course.

PRINCE2® Foundation

PRINCE2 (Projects in a Controlled Environment) is a structured project management method based on experience drawn from thousands of projects – and from the contributions of countless project sponsors, Project Managers, project teams, academics, trainers and consultants. PRINCE2 is a non-proprietary method and has emerged worldwide as one of the most widely accepted methods for managing projects. This is largely due to the fact that PRINCE2 is truly generic: it can be applied to any project regardless of project scale, type, organization, geography or culture.

1 video – 7 min.

One aim of PRINCE2 is to make the right information available at the right time for the right people to make the right decisions about the project. Those decisions include whether to take corrective action or implement measures to improve performance.

1 video – 10 min.

The principles are the guiding obligations and good practices which determine whether the project is genuinely being managed using PRINCE2. There are seven principles and unless all of them are applied, it is not a PRINCE2 project. The PRINCE2 principles are described in Chapter 3. PRINCE2 is a flexible framework and one of the principles is that it can readily be tailored to any type or size of project. Chapter 4 describes, how PRINCE2 is adapted to make it suitable for the project.

1 video – 5 min.

The PRINCE2 method is designed to be adapted. The adaption does not consist of omitting parts of PRINCE2 as this will weaken the project management for the entire project.

Tailoring relates to the proper use of PRINCE2 on any given project to ensure the right amount of governance, planning and control in accordance with the principles of PRINCE2.

Adopting PRINCE2 involves two processes:

  • Tailoring PRINCE2 to develop the organization’s own method
  • Embedding the new method into the organization, so that people understand and use it appropriately.

These activities will be introduced in the following sections.

3 videos – 12 min.

The themes describe aspects of project management that must be addressed continually and in parallel throughout the project. The seven themes explain the specific treatment required by PRINCE2 for various project management disciplines and why they are necessary.

29 videos – 135 min.

The seven processes describe the entire progress – from starting up a project, when the project goes through the different phases in the project lifecycle to the final closing of a project. Each process includes checklists of recommended activities, products and associated responsibilities.

23 videos – 106 min.

This chapter provides a more detailed guide to the organizations, who want to implement PRINCE2 and, in particular, what is important to consider when:

  • Adaptation of PRINCE2 to create the organization method
  • Embedding the adapted method into the organization’s workflow and ensuring widespread use

Each session offers a mini quiz to test your knowledge on the topics covered. It is recommended that you take all mini quizzes as you meet them on your way through the course. You can see your development under “statistics”.

In the end you will get a practical test. All test are in Danish or English.
These are additional test and you can look at them as exam training.

You get a glossary that you can use while reading and listening to the videos.

Get to know the phrases used throughout the course and in the real world.

Introduction to PRINCE2 Practitioner, aims and objectives of the course, projects vs. programmes and basic introduction to the 7 Themes, 7 Principles and Process structure. Tailoring is key.

5 videos – 20 min.

This PRINCE2 process starts with receipt of a Project Mandate. The Project Manager investigates what lessons should be learned from previous projects to judge the viability of the project.

3 videos – 17 min.

PRINCE2 includes an organization structure that defines roles and responsibilities for each member of the Project Team. Tailoring to the needs of the project is essential.

13 videos – 43 min.

The Business Case describes the valid reasons for undertaking a project. It covers the full scope of the project and includes estimated costs, savings and business benefits.

6 videos – 30 min.

The Process Directing a Project starts when the process Starting Up a Project has been completed. Directing a Project is initiated by the request to Initiate a Project.

2 videos – 47 min.

The initial project planning stage and will generate a set of plans known as the PID. This enables the Project Board to decide formally whether or not to commit to the project.

8 videos – 27 min.

Projects produce change and change involves risk. PRINCE2 ensures that risk management is integrated into project plans. Risks are identified and analyzed and managed.

5 videos – 20 min.

PRINCE2 requires a “fit for purpose” quality for all deliverables. Each product must be defined and the quality criteria set to ensure that every product is built “to purpose”.

7 videos – 22 min.

PRINCE2 requires a project plan that the Project Board and Project Manager together agree is realistic. No specific style of plan is required but the use of Product-based Planning is suggested.

7 videos – 24 min.

The Project Board reviews the project at the end of each stage. This covers the updating of key information, production of the next Stage Plan and a report ready for Project Board review.

14 videos – 55 min.

This covers the day-to-day work of the Project Manager in monitoring a stage, reporting progress and taking any corrective action necessary.

14 videos – 55 min.

PRINCE2 bases progress control on “management by exception” giving a Project Manager well-defined levels of authority at different stages within a project.

14 videos – 55 min.

User requirements are subject to change so PRINCE2 requires an Issue and Change Control procedure. This handles any Project Issues, be they change request, statements of concern etc.

14 videos – 55 min.

The purpose of this process is to control the link between the Project Manager and the Team Manager(s), by placing formal requirements on accepting, executing and delivering project work.

14 videos – 55 min.

PRINCE2 requires an orderly close. Closing a Project defines the tasks needed to ensure that the project is complete.

In what situations is a Health Check relevant?

A Health Check works by asking you a line of question about agility within four different fields: Behavior, project environment, processes and techniques. If you answer the question “yes”, you will have met an intermediate aim of being agile and behave accordingly.

When every question is answered, you will receive a statement on the current level of your business / your project / your team.

The questions are designed to increase awareness of your current position towards being agile in your work. The result of the exercise is not what is important. If you need help moving on from here, we would recommend looking at the subsequent purchases, in which you can purchase agile coaching lessons.
